Destination Guides

Personal insights and practical explanations for some of the world's most interesting places.

Dubai Skyline

Dubai, UAE

Seeing the Burj Khalifa in person is completely different from seeing it in photos. Beyond the skyscrapers, heading out to the deserts is a really fun experience that I highly recommend. I loved the contrast between the modern city and the desert safaris.

Dining: I had an amazing meal (specifically the meat dishes) at a restaurant right in front of the Dubai Fountain. Watching the water show while eating was unforgettable.

Note: My visit was prior to Covid, so it may have changed.

Japan Streets

Japan

While Tokyo is the most famous stop, other cities across Japan are definitely worth visiting to see different sides of the culture. Off topic, but I personally feel the convenience stores are a very fun place to go in Japan!

Recommendation: Definitely try the matcha ice cream or latte.

And don't worry much about the language barrier. I found it surprisingly easy to wander around without knowing Japanese. Simple English and body language worked fine for getting around and ordering food (though it's better to know a few basic words).

Chicago

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is beautiful, especially the architecture river tour. It gets really windy (obviously), but walking by the lake makes it worth it. I especially loved the artsy buildings they have.

Don't miss: Deep Dish Pizza.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California

Having lived in Cali, I can say the Santa Monica Pier offers one of the best sunset views you'll ever see. Also, if you are a skateboard fan, you should check out the Venice Beach Skatepark nearby!

Recommendation: Driving down the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway).
